Gone for a (long) Run giveaway

Saturday I ventured out for my last long run before the St. George Marathon. It went really well. I finished in just under 3 1/2 hours. And my race team was faithful as always. The Princess and her daddy brought me a Powerade refill (and my forgotten sunglasses) at 13 miles and then the whole crew (including my mom) brought me some ice cold water an hour later. My stomach cooperated, and I only needed one potty stop at the beginning (mostly because I didn't give myself time for it to happen before I headed out the door). And when I finished, my legs felt pretty good. The only soreness was my IT band, which bothered me off and on toward the end, and my Achilles on both feet, which have been a little tender after my longer runs ever since the uphills on the South Valley Half. But by the next day, any sign of the 22 miles I ran had pretty much subsided.

Before I headed out the door, I made sure to put on my ID bracelet. This has become part of my get-ready routine before my outside runs. But this time I was a little more excited about it because I was trying out my new IDmeBand Paracord Safety Bracelet from Gone for a Run.

Here are my thoughts, after wearing the bracelet for 22 miles:

  • It doesn't stink. Even after 3.5 hours of sweat. That is always a good thing.

  • It is pink. I love pink.

  • I didn't notice it. It fits a little looser than I like, but the smaller size was the exact measurement of my wrist and I was afraid it would be too tight. So I just pushed it up my arm until it didn't move and then I didn't even notice it was there.

  • It is really lightweight and didn't make my arm sweat like my silicone band does.

  • It was nice to know I had a life-saving device on my wrist, and not just because it contains my identification info. I think it is fascinating the paracord can be uncoiled and used as a tourniquet, a tow rope or a (running) shoe lace.

  • I am excited that one of you gets to have one too. And you get to choose a blue, black or pink paracord IDmeBAND. Yep, Gone for a Run wants to give one of you the band of your choice.

  • Here's how you can win (please leave a separate comment for each entry):

    1. Follow my blog. (1 entry - required)

    2. Visit Gone for a Runand tell me which bracelet you would choose and why you want it. (1 entry - required)

    3. LIKE Gone For a Run on Facebook. (1 entry - optional)

    4. Share this giveaway on your blog, Facebook and/or Twitter. (up to 3 entries - optional)

If you don't win, you can still get your own Paracord IDmeBAND at Gone for a Run. Or check out the silicone IDmeBANDs with adjustable bands, which I think is AWESOME! The winner will be chosen by Random.org and announced on Tuesday, September 13.

*Gone for a Run generously provided the bracelets for the review and to give away in exchange for my unbiased review.

    1. I liked the facebook page. And I would want the pink paracord IDmeBAND, because I never run with a phone or my wallet. So if I was lying in a ditch somewhere, a road ID would be super helpful.

    47. I get the IDmeBand pink paracord too. Why? Because in my crazy imaginary world, I might be lost in the wildness (during an ultra) and forced to use all those survival skills I have amassed while watching years of discovery channel shows. That paracord would come in handy! I might use it to build a shelter or snare some food.

Oh, the insane world inside my head! ;-)

Carpet Burn On My Butt (and a giveaway)

After two lame, pathetic, lackluster weeks of running, I woke up excited to run yesterday. And today, I wore my running clothes all morning in anticipation of my nap time run today. Even in spite of sore glutes and tired quads from getting in some P90X Core Synergistics last night, I couldn't wait to get moving on Millie. I am a planner. Today I had a plan to get my run in while my girls slept, and my day was organized accordingly. I am also a creature of habit. The first thing I do when I roll out of bed every single day is make my bed and my girls' beds. If I do something else first, it throws off the entire morning. I am a creature of habit when it comes to my running routines as well. There are a few things that differ depending on whether I am running on Millie or outside, whether my girls are asleep or not, and whether or not they are joining me in the jogger. Yet, no matter when, where, how far or with whom I run, some things are always the same. My hair goes into a pony

    I wasn't sure going in...

Yep, I'm checking in. Why? Because I did something completely out of my comfort zone that I wanted to share with you. Last week I went to a place near Salt Lake called Dexa Body, where I got a DEXA Scan. For those unfamiliar with what that is, I asked Google to help us out:  "Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry  ( DXA , previously  DEXA ) is a means of measuring  bone mineral density  (BMD). Two  X-ray  beams, with different  energy levels , are aimed at the patient's  bones . When  soft tissue   absorption is subtracted out, the  bone mineral density  (BMD) can be determined from the absorption of each beam by bone. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry is the most widely used and most thoroughly studied bone density measurement technology." Since that is pretty medical sounding, here's my take. A DEXA Scan is a tool to measure your total body composition. It specifically breaks down the regional composition of your lean and fat tissue. It gives a fat distribution

Social Media: Some good, a lot of bad, and way too much ugly

There are a lot of good things that come from social media. We can connect with people we have lost touch with. We can unite as a group (runners!!) with a comment interest. We can promote a good cause. Sadly though, what social media does best is makes us feel bad about ourselves and makes us feel negatively towards others. This isn't just my opinion, although I can unquestionably support the truth behind this based on my own experience. I have spent way too much time feeling bad about myself as a result of comparing myself to others based on their Instagram or Facebook versions of themselves. And there are several people I have started feeling negatively about or have become completely annoyed with because of their IG and FB posts. It isn't just me though. There are actual studies that can back me up on the negative impact social media can have. I have read dozens of articles reviewing many different studies that show the overwhelmingly negative (vs. positive) effec
