Woman gives birth after running Chicago Marathon. What do you think?

I just read this article about a woman who ran (and walked) the Chicago Marathon yesterday and then gave birth last night. The comments at the end of the article are very interesting to me as a runner and as a mother. Before I weigh in, what do you think?

"She finished the marathon in 6 hours, 25 minutes and 50 seconds. Not her personal best, but she did beat her husband."

Talk about being chicked!

Wow - I read the article thinking how wonderful it was that she was so healthy, and what a great gift to give to her daughter, and how I would like to be that healthy when I get pregnant again - instead of obese and unhealthy like I am - and started reading through the comments. I am amazed at all the people trying to burn her at the stake for even thinking about doing such a thing, She had permission from her doctors, she was a runner before and had trained for it healthfully for 9 months... I would put her under the category of good mom, not evil mom.

I say if you follow the dr.'s orders that's ok I know a lot of my friends that have kept running through out their pregnancy are usually given a heart rate they can't go above. Personally I probably would have freaked out just cause of it being so close.

Seems a little late in the pregnancy to be "trying" this. But I've never had a child so maybe it's fine. I think she took the whole "inducing labor by walking" thing a little far!

I think a lot of people just don't understand that as long as you've been doing an activity you can continue as long as your doctor says it's safe. It seems like she did all the right things. Walk/running is a great way to continue your fitness while you're pregnant. I wish I could have done that. I was really sick and was on bed rest. I think she's awesome!

Wow. I don't know that running with active contractions is the best idea, but that does sound like a great pain management technique!

i saw this earlier on FB and have yet to read the comments...but honestly I think she is incredible for doing that + inspiring to continue to put health and fitness at such a high importance even through her pregnancy!

The fitness is always important but a marathon .... is long, better not to risk.
However everything went well, it means that she was right.

Personally, I'd never run a marathon while pregnant, but I'm not going to condemn her for doing it.

I do love that she beat her husband...

I have to give props to her, but REALLY? I'm all about life and risking my baby for a marathon... not for me.

ok. I dont think this was ok. even if she was healthy. I think this was crazy and also a bit irresponsible. I dont admire what she did but I am glad she and her baby are ok.

My body can't handle even walking when pregnant!

But that doesn't mean everyone else is the same. If she got the OK from the doc, she's been training, why not? It's amazing what our bodies can do when they are working properly!
