Dogtown 9K Mini Race Report

I ran a race on Saturday. It was a 9k. Which is 5.6 miles, for those of you who are wondering. I wondered because I haven't ever run, and until Saturday hadn't even heard of, a 9K race. Can't say that anymore. The race was the Dogtown 9K in Washington, Utah. Since it is over three hours from home, we stayed with my aunt and uncle, who were awesome to watch our girls while the hubs and I ran. This was only my second race with the hubs. We ran one race together a few years ago, but I pushed both girls in the double jogger. So this was a whole different experience. Since the hubs has been having some knee issues, we went at his pace and just enjoyed the rare opportunity to run together. One of the highlights of the race was getting shorts instead than a shirt in the race packet. These are mine, which I wore to bust out some speedwork tonight: Sorry about the over-the-shoulder in-the-mirror butt shot, but the hubs wasn't around to take the pic and the shorts' decoration

Things I Love Thursday - Lists

I love lists. Just ask anyone at my house. I have two white boards in the kitchen to prove my love of lists. I have "memos" on my phone with lists of awesome things my girls say, great places to eat and gift ideas. I usually have a to-do list on my desk, which gets updated almost daily. And when we were packing for Hawaii two weeks ago, I made a list of things to pack. And since my last post coincides closely with my departure to Hawaii, you now know why I have been MIA. To get back into the swing of things, I am going to make another list... After a chaotic week, we packed up and headed to Hawaii on the 10th. There was a lot of beach time, some sightseeing, snorkeling, a Valentine's Day hike and even some running. I will post more about our Hawaii adventures once I download all the pics from the hubs' phone. Until then, here is some Hawaii happiness: Since we've been back, the girls have readjusted to going to school again. And I've been catching up on work.

Smile!

Scene: The hubs and my two girls watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang . In it, a kooky inventor is a single parent of two children. Bean: Where's their mommy? The hubs: I don't know. Bean: Probably running . Made me smile. Hope it makes you smile too. Happy Monday!

Things I Love Thursday - Runners...so be careful out there

Every time I go for a run outside lately, I think of Sherry Arnold . And I know I'm not the only one. As I was leaving for a run a few weeks ago, my husband told me, "Be careful out there." He normally tells me to be careful or be safe. And I know he means it. But this time there was something in his voice, in the way he said it. I knew he was thinking about what happened to Sherry too. It makes me a little more careful about where I run, how close I get to the road, how far I let myself get from home, and who I've told where and when I am running. I make sure I wear my RoadID and take my phone. And I carry pepper spray. I also tend to run on busier roads. I always have. Because I would rather suck in some exhaust fumes and face the possibility of being hit by a car than disappear and leave my family wondering where I went and what happened to me. Imagining the worst. I'm pretty sure my family would agree. Some of these things wouldn't have made a difference t
